The so-called "Little Croatian Rome" is the capital of the Zadar County and is famous for the Maraskino liqueur and above all the wealth of monuments located in the hostor's center on the peninsula, such as the Roman Forum, the Church of Sts. Donata, st. Anastasia or Venetian city loggia. Zadar is the first city in Croatia to have its own university in 1396 thanks to the Dominicans, who founded it in the area of the monastery of Sts. Dominica. The territory of Zadar was settled as early as the 9th century BC. The attraction for tourists is also the unique architectural work of Murter native Nikola Bašić. Sea Organ, a system of 35 whistles located in the seafront at sea level. Sea water pushes the pipes through the air that passes through them into the vents to the surface of the waterfront and plays, emitting the sound in tons of Croatian flaps, the stronger the larger the waves from the wind or passing ferries. The Sea Organ was completed in 2005, and thanks to the great success, another attraction was being built next to it, Greeting to the Sun. Greeting to the Sun is a set of solar collectors in the shape of circles spaced on the waterfront, representing the Sun and its planets. By day, the "Sun" is not very interesting, only a huge blue circle, but at night after dark it turns into a great color play that is powered by solar energy accumulated over the day.
